Saoirse Ronan is keen to embrace the dark side and has reiterated her strong desire to play a villain in the upcoming James Bond film. While the next actor to don the 007 mantle has yet to be announced, Ronan shared in a recent interview that she would relish the opportunity to portray an antagonist.

Speaking to Empire, she stated, "I want to go dark. I said that I wanted to be a Bond villain and I’m dead serious."

Ronan elaborated on her vision, suggesting, "I think it would be really interesting, having a young female villain. Especially for girls and women, to see someone who can just take all that pent-up anger and direct it somewhere, there’s something interesting in that dramatically. So I would love to do more of that."

This is not the first time the Lady Bird star has voiced her ambition to be a Bond villain. In a 2024 interview with Vanity Fair, she affirmed, "I will stand by really wanting to play a Bond villain, which I will say again and again. Because anytime that I’ve gotten a chance to play someone who’s a little bit evil, I just love it. And I think it would be really fun to do that again."

She further explained her fascination with Bond villains, noting that she finds the characters "very interesting." Ronan added, "I do think there’s something kind of cool about having a female villain who wants to take him down and doesn’t just want to fall in love with him."

The search for the next James Bond is reportedly ongoing, with auditions said to be taking place this month.
