Spezia's Šapola: "Indescribable Debut, I feel great with the team and coach"
Motiejus Šapola, one of Spezia's new faces and already a protagonist with his goal against Torres in the Coppa Italia, shares his initial impressions from the Melara sports center. The defender discussed his integration into the club, his first matches, and his personal expectations for the season.
A Start That Has Already Won Him Over
Šapola described his first days in the white shirt: "I'm feeling really great, both with the team and the coach. The debut against Torres was indescribable, and I even scored a goal, so I can only be satisfied and happy with this start."
The Grosseto Match and Areas for Improvement
The defender also analyzed the subsequent match: "The game in Grosseto was complicated. The opposing team exploited counter-attacks well, and we should have managed possession better and lost fewer balls, avoiding conceding breakaways. Perhaps a factor was that we didn't start the game with the same energy shown against Torres, an aspect we've discussed a lot recently, knowing we'll need more intensity from the first minute for the next match."
Role and Tactical Flexibility
Regarding his defensive preferences: "I prefer a back four, but I have no problem playing in a back three. I'm ready to do what the team needs."
Growth and Daily Work
Šapola also spoke about the team's development process: "We are working hard and well. It's difficult to say when we'll be able to express ourselves at our full potential, but what matters for now is to keep working and remain focused and determined to improve."
Personal Goals
The defender also clarified his ambitions: "Personally, I want to always give my best, deliver the best possible performances, and do my utmost to help the team have a great season."
Understanding with Defensive Colleagues
About his daily work with the defense: "I get along very well with my defensive teammates. We are working intensely, and our understanding will only improve day by day."
First Impressions of the City
Šapola also shared his experience of Spezia: "The city is truly beautiful. I've had the chance to enjoy a day at the beach, and in general, everything I've seen so far is truly lovely."
Character and Idols
Finally, a personal note: "My character? I'm a simple guy, not one for many words, but one with his head on his shoulders. An idol? Currently, I think the footballer I like most in the world of football is Van Dijk."
