United?
Ederson: A New Signing for Atalanta After Manchester United Deal Collapsed
The midfielder's words also reveal other offers received after his renewal, but for now, he remains in Bergamo with a star player's contract.
"I am happy to stay at Atalanta. United? I don't know what happened, I'm telling you. These things happen, I've always had offers from other teams and I could have gone to another English club. Then I had my medicals, they went well, but I don't know what happened."
Ederson's words leave no room for doubt: Manchester United withdrew from the agreement, avoiding spending €50 million. This decision is legitimate, but it surprised everyone when Ederson decided to renew his contract. "At that point, I decided to renew. I could have not done so and waited to see how things unfolded, but the great relationship I have with the club convinced me to stay and extend."
A New Signing?
It's a common notion to consider a player absent for a long time as a new addition to the squad. However, Ederson seemed determined to leave at all costs, with only one year left on his contract and the possibility to choose from offers. Instead, he decided to extend. Certainly, there are four million euros (his salary until 2031, including bonuses, matching Raspadori's) that represent a valid reason. Thus, instead of signing players like Raskin or Rovella, Atalanta decided not to change their squad significantly.
Other Statements
"I received many offers afterward, but given what happened, I prioritized wearing this jersey again. Then, in the summer, I also experienced the World Cup period where I felt good, and the most important thing was to return to Bergamo with the right mindset. I want to thank the club and Luca Percassi for the trust they have in me. Being the third South American ever? It's a very beautiful record. I've been here for five years, and managing to achieve significant numbers fills me with happiness. I hope to go even further, and I am happy with this achievement with Atalanta."
