Juventus' Incomplete Transfer Market: Kessié and Grabara Eyed as Key Reinforcements
Juventus begins their league campaign at Frosinone at 6:30 PM, with Vicario and Kolo Muani set to start. However, manager Luciano Spalletti is still awaiting further reinforcements. While the squad has shown improvement, with Yildiz secured and Douglas Luiz revitalized, the gap with Inter Milan is far from closed. Franck Kessié is being considered as a potential new signing, and Kamil Grabara is a target to replace Perin in goal, according to Tuttosport.
Juventus embarks on their season with a dual focus. The first challenge is on the pitch at the Stirpe stadium, where Luciano Spalletti's team must overcome the enthusiasm and intensity of Frosinone. The second is the transfer market, where the club's management needs to finalize a squad that still lacks several crucial alternative options.
Spalletti has acknowledged the club's efforts but has not shied away from the reality. Juventus is more competitive than last season, but the rebuilding process is far from over.
Inter Milan remains the benchmark in terms of quality, squad depth, and understanding of their team dynamics. To close the gap, Juventus must start the league strongly and accelerate their remaining transfer dealings.
Inter Remains the Benchmark
Spalletti has refrained from quantifying the difference with Inter. He understands that summer transfer market assessments are relative and that the performances on the field will ultimately determine how much Juventus has truly grown.
Inter, however, benefits from a more established structure. They have solid options in every department and have further enhanced their squad depth, while Juventus is still seeking balance and consistency.
Having finished outside the top four last season, Juventus cannot afford to believe that a few new signings alone will erase the deficit. It will require time, hard work, and, most importantly, victories.
Therefore, the opening match at Frosinone holds significant importance. To compete with the best, dropping points against newly promoted teams is not an option.
Spalletti: Positive Market, But Incomplete
The coach has praised the work done but emphasized that Juventus started from a more complex situation compared to their direct rivals.
"In general, we've had a good transfer window. However, the market doesn't start the same for everyone, because some teams only need minor adjustments, while others require a major overhaul," he stated.
Juventus indeed needed a significant restructuring. The management has changed the goalkeeper, added defensive quality, and secured Kolo Muani, but certain areas of the squad remain incomplete.
Spalletti is anticipating at least one midfielder, one forward, and an alternative for Cambiaso. Adding to these needs is the requirement for a second goalkeeper, following the departures of Di Gregorio and Perin.
Kessié Could Be the First Reinforcement
Franck Kessié could be the first significant signing in the closing days of the transfer window. The Ivorian possesses the attributes Spalletti desires: strength, ability to make forward runs, experience, and the versatility to play in a two-man or three-man midfield.
Juventus needs a player who can bring more personality and intensity to the midfield. Locatelli provides balance, and Douglas Luiz appears to have rediscovered his form during pre-season. However, a physically imposing player who can support attacks and contribute to scoring is missing.
Kessié would address this need, but the issue of his salary remains. The club's management must find a sustainable agreement and facilitate some player departures before proceeding.
Resolving Arthur's situation is a crucial step, but it might not be enough. Juventus needs to free up another spot in the midfield to accommodate the Ivorian's arrival.
Grabara for the Post-Perin Era
The goalkeeper department is also undergoing significant changes. Michele Di Gregorio is expected to join Bournemouth, while Mattia Perin is being eyed by Palermo.
Perin will be on the bench against Frosinone, but his future appears to be away from Turin. Juventus, however, is not keen on letting him go for free and awaits an adequate offer from Palermo.
Kamil Grabara, a Polish goalkeeper from Wolfsburg, is being considered as his replacement. The 1999-born player brings international experience, a strong physical presence, and confidence.
Grabara might initially accept competition with Vicario, despite possessing the qualities and ambitions of a starting goalkeeper. However, Juventus will need to assess if the operation is financially viable and if it aligns with the need to strengthen other areas of the squad.
Vicario to Start Immediately
Guglielmo Vicario will be thrust straight into action against Frosinone. Spalletti has decided not to delay and will entrust the goalkeeping duties to his new acquisition.
