Chelsea in Talks for Atalanta's Young Defender Ahanor
Chelsea Football Club is reportedly engaged in discussions to acquire the services of Honest Ahanor, an 18-year-old defender currently playing for Atalanta. The Premier League club had previously shown interest in the Italian talent when they secured the signing of right-back Marco Palestra from the same Serie A outfit in July.
According to sources, Atalanta is prepared to part ways with Ahanor, provided their asking price of 40 million euros (approximately £34.3 million) is met. The young player, primarily deployed at left-back, made the move to Atalanta from Genoa last summer on a three-year contract, with reports suggesting a transfer fee of 16 million euros plus potential add-ons totaling 4 million euros.
Ahanor has established himself as a regular starter for Atalanta, featuring in 28 Serie A matches last season. He also made his debut in the Champions League, participating in a 2-1 victory against Club Brugge in September. His performances earned him a call-up to the Italian national team for friendly matches against Luxembourg and Greece in May.
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has been actively strengthening his squad since taking charge at Stamford Bridge in July. Notable signings include England midfielder Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for a club-record £117 million, as well as experienced Premier League players Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson.
Following a 3-2 opening-day victory against Fulham, Chelsea is set to host Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday.
