Lando Norris from McLaren clinched the pole position for the Dutch Grand Prix, narrowly edging out George Russell of Mercedes in a tense qualifying session where drivers rushed to set their times before an approaching rain shower.

Norris finished just 0.102 seconds ahead of Russell as raindrops began to fall, prompting an earlier-than-usual completion of their final laps due to the changing weather conditions.

Russell's teammate, Kimi Antonelli, was initially the first to improve on his final lap, briefly taking the lead.

However, Norris then surpassed him for first place, solidifying the position he had initially secured early in the final session, with Russell subsequently taking second.

Antonelli, who leads the championship, finished 0.031 seconds behind Russell and 0.009 seconds faster than Oscar Piastri in the second McLaren.

Ultimately, the expected heavy rain did not materialize. Lewis Hamilton, who delayed his final run, managed to overtake his teammate Charles Leclerc, with the Ferraris occupying fifth and sixth positions on the starting grid.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen will start his final home Grand Prix at Zandvoort, as the race is set to be removed from the calendar after this season, from seventh place.

His stand-in teammate, Liam Lawson, who replaced the injured Isack Hadjar, delivered an impressive performance, lapping only 0.0115 seconds slower than Verstappen to secure eighth place. He finished ahead of Gabriel Bortoleto in the Audi and Arvid Lindblad, the British rookie for Racing Bulls.
