Criscitiello: "I Expect Shocking Fire Sales: Those Who Haven't Sold Will Have To Later"

Michele Criscitiello, the director of Sportitalia, shared his insights with TuttoMercatoWeb regarding the transfer market activities of Italy's top football clubs. He explained that being involved in the market clarifies why deals often go down to the wire, a sentiment echoed by coaches like Sarri who find the transfer window excessively long. Criscitiello anticipates some "shocking fire sales," stating that clubs that haven't offloaded players yet will be compelled to do so in the near future.

When asked about the best transfer market performance, Criscitiello unequivocally named Fiorentina. He praised their intelligent director and the club's outstanding sports center, considering the director a perfect fit for Milan. He expressed disappointment with Lazio, suggesting their relationship with Lotito is nearing its end and not expecting much more from them. Napoli, in his view, had little to do, while Roma and Inter made few but effective moves. Milan, on the other hand, has spent significantly, and the success of these investments remains to be seen.

Criscitiello also touched upon his personal journey, dedicating their promotion to his late father. He emphasized that his current professional standing was achieved through a carefully planned project rather than excessive spending. His strategy involved "sowing to reap," and now that he has reached Serie C, his objective is to remain there. He identifies his team, along with others like Dolomiti Bellunesi, Giana Erminio, and Desenzano, as clubs focused on survival. He acknowledges a shift in focus from aiming upwards in the standings to now having to look down, requiring more caution and patience to maintain their league status. He has urged his players to strive for victory in every match, acknowledging that they will respect stronger opponents. Having moved on from the lower divisions, he feels they are now experiencing "real football" and must give their all in every game.
